Grado SR-60 Consumer Headphones

The only headphones you will need in your lifetime

Strengths: Awesome, clear sound quality. Very durable. Made by a good reputable company. Only 60 bucks.

Weakness: Design could use some modern updating but then again, who buys headphones for looks? Also, I wish the cord was a bit longer so I can watch tv but it's nothing that extention cords can't fix.

At first I was worried because I read many user reviews from many different sites that the headphones can be too uncomfortable to some, but after some adjusting with the headband, I found it satisfactorily comfortable. But then again, I have somewhat a small head so I may just be lucky. I only wish the cord was 10 ft like the other headphones but it's only 6 ft which means you may have to use an extention cord when using it to watch tv. And like others have already mentioned, be aware that if you plan to use these in public, people around you can hear your music too. But I only use it in my home so it's absolutely no problem for me.

Wow....just wow!

Strengths: Incredible sound quality, superb crispness and warmth especially in highs.

Weakness: Aesthetics

I use them every day, and whenever I'm subjected to another brand of headphones I can't stand them. The SR-60's really spoil the user--they are comfortable, lightweight, and they sound absolutely stunning. I've owned several pairs of high end Sennheisers, several mid-level Panasonics, and some lower-level Plantronic and Sennheiser headsets, all of which sound no better than tin cans compared to the Grados. Vocals, guitars, and violins come through so cleanly and with such perfect timbre that it is difficult to draw a comparison between the SR60s and any consumer (retail) level headphones.

Some critics have complained of a "lack of bass", but I've found the SR-60's to be quite well balanced. They do break in over a period of several weeks, but even initially the bass was more than satisfactory for most rock music.

As far as sound quality is...

Strengths: Very clear sound, very good detail. Lightweight, durable, and flexible metal headband. Very inexpensive for its performance. Ears don't get hot and sweaty.

Weakness: Leaks sound like crazy...both in and out. May need adjustments/modifications to be comfortable. Ears will get tired after having have those big pads sitting on them for a while. Unpadded headband.

As far as sound quality is concerned, this pair of headphones is the set to buy for this price range. As far as sound quality is concerned, this pair of headphones is the set to buy for this price range. The sound it gives feels very warm and "close" is if you were inside the recording studio as opposed to a concert hall--this may or may not suit your tastes. Many people have complained about the lack of bass, but unless you really like to feel the bass rip though you and vibrate your bones, there's plenty of bass already. These hadphones are capable of being driven by portable players, and you can still hear clear details even at low volume levels. It takes a week or two for the the drivers to loosen up; now it sounds much smoother and the bass is much better than when it was new. Another nice feature is that the earcans swivel freely, so you can fold them down and fit the entire headphone into an 8''x 8''x 1.5'' box...great for traveling.

The headband is rather uncomfortable right out of the box; it clamps down on your ears and the weight from the headband tends to come down on a single point on the top of your head. I fixed these problems by flexxing the headband to widen them, and I wound a strip of bubble paper around the sides of the headband so that the shape would fit my head and the weight would be evenly distributed.

The main drawback of these earphones is that like most good earphones, they use the "open" design, which means that they emit a tinny version of your music--like a set of laptop speakers playing very softly--so everyone else around can hear (and be bothered) by your music. Also, sound leaks in, so if you're in a noisy environment, you'll hear the noise as well.

I thought these headphones would be worth buying just for solitary listening though; they really bring my cds to life.

Strengths: 1. Clean, pure sound 2. Affordable Price 3. Long cord length 4. Providing connection both for 1/4" and 1/8" headphone-plug

Weakness: 1. The omfort of wearing the headphones is "just" ok. 2. Ugly appearance

This is my first Grado headphones. I choice SR-60 because of economical concerning. I think I made a correct decision, because it works perfectly with my mp3 player, Archos Gmini220. Comparing with other headphones I already have, Grado SR-60 has better performance at purifying the sound and music. The vibrant tone in soprano and alto level is so outstanding, but the bass is not so strong relatively. It works well with classic, pop, jazz.

Outstanding Value

Strengths: Great sound quality, balanced throughout the audible range. Sturdy construction and heavy duty cord.

Weakness: Dual cord design

This is a great set of headphones for any application. Unlike others, I find these 'phones to be very comfortable over a long listening session.
