HP (Hewlett-Packard) LP2065 20" LCD Monitor

The HP LP2065 is a very solid 20" non-widescreen LCD monitor that is worth every penny...

Strengths: 1. Uses an excellent LG S-IPS panel (or an also very good AUO A-MVA panel). 2. Great build quality and performance. 3. Includes all the necessary cables plus extras. 4. Uses less power than listed.

Weakness: 1. Price is somewhat higher than similarly sized widescreen and non-widescreen monitors.

--My previous monitor was a Dell 1800FP 18" LCD flat panel, which had lasted me over 6 years. With small problems cropping up and the urge to increase my desktop real estate, I began the search for a new LCD flat panel monitor. After alot of research, browsing in online forums, and instore usage I settled on the HP LP2065. I purchased it online for around $330 shipped (after numerous rebates).

--The LP2065 is extremely well packed and there is no doubt it was well protected during shipping. It's easy to see upon unpacking that HP is presenting a very high quality product and didn't cut any corners. Inside the box is the usual driver CD with an electronic manual, warranty booklet and a few other inserts. Also included are 2 DVI digital cables, 2 VGA analog cables, power cord, and a USB cable. With many monitor manufacturers not even including the necessary cables needed for proper operation, it's great to see that HP didn't skimp out in this area. The LP2065 comes in two pieces, the base and the panel. It's very easy to assemble the two into the final product.

--The base of the LP2065 is quite sturdy and is weighted very well. The monitor feels very solid and adjusting the height, tilt, and left/right pivoting is smooth and effortless. A small silver bezel surround the panel and gives the monitor a great look. There are four, easy to use buttons on the bottom bezel, in the middle, for adjusting the monitor's settings and for moving through the on-screen display.

--The monitor I received did have the great LG S-IPS panel, but others may use an AUO A-MVA panel which is also good. The LP2065 had very little backlight bleeding, mainly on the bottom left and right corners. I could only spot 1 stuck pixel on the bottom left side of the monitor, which was hardly noticeable during use. The backlight lighting was very uniform in the unit I received.

--When browsing the internet @ 1600x1200, text was razor sharp and quite easy on the eyes, despite being much smaller than my previous monitor's native resolution of 1280x1024. Pictures and photos were very vibrant and viewing angles were quite good. Looking at the LP2065 a bit off-center in any direction resulted in very little picture degradation. Ghosting was pretty much non-existant when watching movies or playing games. High-speed scenes and movements were smooth with little choppiness or clipping.

--Overall I was very pleased with the HP LP2065. It was a fantastic step up from my old Dell 1800FP, and exceeded my expectations. I was a bit apprehensive about the cost of the monitor, but it's easy to see that the monitor is of very high quality. HP did a great job putting it all together and creating an excellent flat panel that is worth every penny, and is one of the top 20" non-widescreen monitors that I have had the pleasure of using.

Last of the Great LCD Screens

Strengths: Super sharp image, S-IPS panel (vibrant and deep colors), no ghosting, incredibly versatile, dual-DVI, USB hub.

Weakness: Very heavy, insufficient wire management system, cheap buttons, panel doesn't fully extend to edge.

This is one of the last LCD monitors that still uses the S-IPS panel instead of the now ubiquitous TNA panel. S-IPS panels feature more vibrant and deeper colors (almost at the level of a CRT) while still providing the crispness and low power consumption that makes LCD monitors so popular. The trade off is higher response rates and increased price. Fortunately, this monitor is affordable and a response rate of 16ms ensures no ghosting occurs (a rate any lower won't make a difference due to the limitation of our eyes).

The LP2065 also features a variety of adjustment features (height, tilt, turn, rotate), so it will fit perfectly on any desk. The dual-DVI and USB hub are additional bonuses which help complete the package. All cables were also included.

A slight weakness of the monitor is that it uses a poorly implemented wire management system and its buttons are a bit flimsy. Also, the panel doesn't extend all the way to the edge, but then again I have never seen any panel that does. Finally, be warned that HP may be replacing the use of S-IPS in favor of an PVA panel in the future, so your experience may vary. Overall, this is a must buy and the best monitor in the 20.1" category.

Excellent LCD

Strengths: Vivid color display, good build quality, various adjustments available

Weakness: None

I purchased this LCD after a comprehensive research. It is one of the most affordable S-IPS panel LCDs in the market. I am very satisfied with my choice. There are no dead pixels and the picture quality is superb. In addition, it has both height and horizontal adjustments to fit the space. Highly recommended.

I have been very happy with the HP LCD screen. After trying two other brands and being very unhappy with the quality, I determined to get a name brand that had a good reputation and reviews. The HP LP2065 was both. I have to say that I'm very happy with the quality and the flexibility of the unit itself. It has a about a 6" vertical movement so that you can choose what is best for you. It also has a crisp display and I have not found any pixels that are inactive. After wobbly screens and unfulfilled promises from other companies, I'm very happy with my HP.
